Basement Bookcase Styling- Creating Character

image

I recently had the pleasure to work with Lisa, who asked me to style the bookshelves in her newly remodeled basement. Let me tell you, when I walked into her home, I was in awe. Her home is gorgeous! She recently remodeled, and had already done an amazing job on styling and decorating her home. From the floors to the paint colors, to the furnishings it was simply stunning! (I MEAN CAN WE TALK ABOUT THOSE SLIDING BARN DOORS?! UH-MAZING!) I told her it sure didn’t look like she needed my help! But, she assured me that she truly wasn’t any good at styling shelves- I still don’t quite believe her 😉 And you know what? Some people really do just struggle with styling shelves and mantles and get overwhelmed or don’t know where to start. Personally, I love it! It’s one of my favorite things to do. It’s one of the things that makes a big difference and gives the space some character and adds that cozy, homey touch. I gladly welcome this task!

We started with her sending me a photo of the space and I began collecting my items. She originally had an older print there that just didn’t go with the style of the surroundings.

She actually purchased the clock before my arrival and it was a nice touch. She also already had the candlesticks. Plush office chair was found at Homegoods and looks so perfect with the rest of the space!

I like to use inexpensive items from a variety of places such as Hobby Lobby, Tuesday Morning, Kirklands and TJ Maxx/Homegoods, because even with inexpensive items, they do add up! I lay out all of my frames, books and nicknacks and just play around with it. I love how it turned out and this space has so much more character now!

And y’all know it wouldn’t be a ‘Meg Makes it Pretty’ space without some vintage books!
